EARLY YEARS SCIENCE SERIES

The aim of this series of books is to introduce Key Stage One readers to basic scientific concepts related to the current national curriculum.
Science is explored through the adventures of three unlikely friends.
Each book is divided into three distinct sections:

The story, fully illustrated.

A glossary of terms – words included in the story that are underlined.

Simple questions that a child can attempt to answer to highlight learning or identify areas where the reader is less confident or where s/he wants more information
In the first book the characters are introduced as are the principles of scientific enquiry.
The main topics of this book are focused around living creatures and how they live and survive in various habitats.
By the end of the book a reader should be able to:
* describe how scientists investigate the world round them,
* be able to describe the characteristics of living things,
* be able to identify and name the main parts of a plant and trees,
* be able to group animals by identifying similarities and differences,
* feel confident to describe the four seasons.

The main topics of the second book are focused on humans
and how they live and grow in the world around them.
By the end of the book a reader should be able to:
* describe and explain the basic parts of the human body,
* be able to describe the five human senses,
* be able to name the stages in the life of a human,
* be able to explain how a person can remain fit and healthy and
* be able to identify the different materials humans make use
of in their daily lives and how to decide which are the
right materials for each job.
